You can actually use a 2JZ ECU on a 1JZ. The most common substitution is using the Aristo 2JZGTE non vvti on the non VVTi 1JZGTE. All you have to do is match the pins from the 2JZ to the 1JZ.
The main difference between them is that the 2JZ uses 6 injector signals vs the 3 of the 1JZ. There will also be a slight tuning difference with the displacement and and injector difference.
So, if you are in a pinch, consider using a 2JZ ecu to get your 1JZ running.
